Honoring our past by
educating our future.
Serving our Veterans &
Military Families
American Brother Foundation was created in 2019 by Elisa Camara to honor her brother, USMC Sgt. Mecot Camara. He was killed in the Beirut Bombing of 1983. It is named after the book she released in 2013 titled American Brother.
In this moving tribute to her big brother, and all the brave men and women of our Armed Forces, she recounts the life, the loves and the adventures of an ordinary small-town American boy who grew up to become an extraordinary man, a devoted son, husband, and father, and ultimately a proud United States Marine who gave his life for his country.
And now, her goal with ABF is to share Mecot’s love for our youth, his love for his country and his fellow brothers-in-arms.

2024 AMERICAN BROTHER FOUNDATION SCHOLARS
Our military make extreme sacrifices. Sending their children to school should not be one of them. Investing in ABF scholarship recipients is truly investing in America’s future leaders. Our scholarships are based on academics, citizenship and a professionally written essay defining PATRIOTISM.

Feature-Length Documentary
The “boots-on-the ground” truth from those who were there. This poignant, intensely personal, film will chronicle the United States Marines presence and operations in Beirut, Lebanon from 1982 to 1984.
This project is dedicated to the members of the United States military who made the ultimate sacrifice in Lebanon between 1982 and 1984, their Gold Star families and surviving comrades-in-arms, as well as the United States Foreign Service, Multinational Force members, and our Lebanese allies.
We Came in Peace
There is much to be learned from listening to a first-hand account of a veteran’s time is service. To hear about their daily life, battles and sacrifices in very educational as well as inspiring. From World War II veterans to more recent Afghanistan/Iraq veterans, their stories are real and very compelling. At ABF, we strive to share their stories as a tool to educate our youth and preserve and honor their legacy.

Reviews
The American Brother foundation is a living tribute to honor the ultimate sacrifices of 241 young Marines, Sailors and Soldiers, who perished in the terrorist attack in Beirut, Lebanon on October 23rd 1983.
These Americans had dreams of attending school, starting a family and experience the American dream; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They were sent to troubled Beirut at the apex of eight years of civil strife. Their evolving mission was shrouded in increased danger and complexity. They were informed their duty was to bring peace and hope as the US contingent to the Multinational Peacekeeping Forces.
The American Brother Foundation fulfills the dreams and aspirations and provides an opportunity for young adults committed to high personal standards of integrity and academic discipline to establish their patriotic fundamental duties as the American Brothers valued, to put themselves on a trajectory of success and accomplishment in building a positive future for themselves, their families and community, for the greater good.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the founder of the American Brother Foundation and was amazed at her foresight and dream of memorializing the brother who came in peace. I did not understand, probably still don’t, but by taking the time to listen, I have a better understanding of the Foundation, and the love that is being put into making things happen.
Thank you for what you do and what you will do with your dream of a movie.
